Yummy Math

Yummy Math

Another great online math resource that I found is called Yummy Math. Yummy Math is a teacher created website that provides teachers with an easy way to bring real-life into their math classrooms. It is the creators belief that when math is explored in contexts that are familiar and of interest to students, students will be more engaged to do math, reason, think critically, question and communicate.  Yummy Math's activities are written to correspond with the NCTM Process Standards and the CCSS Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Today's real life scenario is how to make blueberry muffins for Father's Day with only using a 1/4 measuring cup. Students must figure out how to use the 1/4 measuring cup to fill the recipe. Example...how many 1/4 cups will you need to have 2 cups of blueberries?  Each scenario has standards listed as well as questions to go along with solving the problems.

There are several categories that you can choose real-life scenarios ranging from number sense to sports. With any category you choose, math is involved.
