Wow! It has been a while!

Apparently teaching my little superheroes took a lot from me last school year. I posted a few blogs and then went MIA! A new school year is in session and I am hoping to stay more up to date on my blog.

School is NOW in session!

School started back on Wednesday and so did football! So this has been a super busy week in the Bradley house! My 24 little superheroes are amazing! I have learned so much about them already. I can already tell it is going to be a fabulous year!

Wednesday of course was full of rules, procedures, and routines. My kiddos wrote their first writing of the year to reflect on how they felt on the first day of school. I can already tell I have some great story writers! We learned about group work through a Marshmallow Challenge. Groups had to build a tall structure/tower that would hold a marshmallow on top while still standing using only 20 pieces of spaghetti, tape, yarn, and 1 regular size marshmallow in 18 minutes! I was very surprised by the outcome! Of course I had a few groups that couldn't get along which resulted in no tower at all. It was awesome seeing how they designed their structures! The tallest standing structure was 23 inches tall! I was super proud of these guys! When I completed this challenge over the summer, my tower was only 13 inches tall! Below are some pictures of my kids during the challenge.

Thursday was full of assessing prior knowledge, learning about bullies, rules, procedures, and routines. My students got to go to their first specials class and I had no idea what to do with myself during an hour of planning! Since I started teaching, I only ever had 40 minutes. It is very surprising to see what I got accomplished! We watched Chrysanthemum and talked about why it is special to be unique, then we got a little crafty! With torn pieces of construction paper, my superheroes created their name. They turned out so cute!

Friday, oh how I was so ever excited to see you! With learning to wake up early again, spending all day at school and not leaving until 5 both W and R, football practice from 5:30-8:30 W-F...this gal is tired! Thinking oh, I will get to sleep in on Saturday...WRONG! I have a 5k race! That starts at 8am which means I have to wake up at 6....shower, stretch and be out the door by 7:20! With this crazy Kentucky weather it will more then likely be chilly, not sure if I should drag out my cold gear or not!
Well anyway, enough of that! Today in class we practiced our safety drills, worked on writing, and created our own superhero mask after reading Superdog heart of a hero By: Caralyn Buehner.
